Tending to the Weeds, 2024.
Varied Edition of 48
Unique plant specimen, d.i.y herbarium label,
pasted label, cardboard box.
57mm x 40mm x 32mm

Carefully collected in the dormant month of February from the neglected roadside of Toronto, the specimens represent the complex plant communities in our environment. While certain plants are considered undesirable, every species is entangled with the local ecology and influences the region's biodiversity. Tending to the Weeds initiates a relationship between the viewer and the plant, allowing the specimen’s features to be studied and examined under care. The multiple, in a varied edition of 48, points the viewers back to the environment where we can meet the whole plant in its habitat, notice the broader and ever-changing networks they are part of and challenges us to carefully rethink our shared futures. In the process of understanding our relations, may our observations alter our fear of migration and the unknown? Before the immediate removal of one, may we pause and consider why it is present in the first place?

Bodies of Water, 2023.
Edition of 50
Glazed stoneware, rubber-stamped
and risograph on paper, cardboard box.
6.2 x 4.5 x 1.6 cm, 20pp

Bodies of Water is inspired by the delicate and timeless relationship between freshwater mussels and the health of our waterways. Often referred to as ‘living rocks,’ freshwater mussels play an essential role in quietly filtering our rivers. Today, nearly half of the world’s freshwater mussels are listed as imperilled. This rapid population decline reflects habitat alteration, pollution and the loss of fish hosts. The book, a small object with ceramic shell-like covers, is held together by intricate butterfly-shaped accordion folds. Within these pages, plankton, algae, and detritus flow against the backdrop of moving waters, around and through the bivalve. Through its nonlinear form, the accordion bookwork illustrates all bodies of water as a connected entity. It emphasizes the impact of water health on the ecology that freshwater mussels depend on to survive.
